Blog 3:
I was really glad that we got to visit so many schools in
the community here. I felt like we really made a difference at all the schools
that we went to since we have been here. Even when we were caught a little bit
off guard at the Nutre Hogar, I think those kids were really excited that we
came to visit them and give them attention, which I honestly don’t think they
receive all that often. Also the
first elementary school that we went to that was on the outskirts of Chitre, I
think they were very grateful that we went there to teach them all our
activities. Both the students and the teachers seemed to enjoy our games and
activities and I think they actually got something out of it. When we went to
Las Minas, at first I thought the students were very serious and stoic but when
they lightened up a little bit after germ freeze tag, I decided that they
probably don’t meet strangers regularly since they are all the way on the top
of that mountain. I also think that passing out the donated shoes was very
gratifying, and it made the kids realize that we actually wanted to try to
improve their lives, even if it was something as simple as shoe donations. I definitely
think that we made a much deeper impact in the school setting than we have made
in the hospital or clinical setting during this trip.
